The things that caught your eye in your reading also amaze me, like William Miller’s study insights and also how people with fewer opportunities have more spiritual insights, because they didn’t get sidetracked by the world.

  2. Yeah it’s amazing how much more we could be studying when we have Ellen White’s writings and all of these other resources and we don’t even utilize them to the best of our abilities! (I was actually going to write that in my description but then I ran out of time)

  3. One thing I learned was the importance of the Second Coming. It was very enlightening for me to see that the throughout all of the Bible and history men have eagerly anticipated the Second Coming. It has inspired Bible writers, given martyrs hope, and shown everyone a little more about God’s love for us.

Another thing was the signs that are predicted, in the Bible, to happen before the Second Coming. It’s so amazing to see that every sign came at the right time and most have already come to pass. It’s very interesting to see, however, that the same thing that happened to the people living in Christ’s time is happening today. “…the eager rush for popularity and power, which seemed to be within the reach of all, led men to center their interests and hopes on the things of life, and to put far in the future that solemn day when the present order of things should pass away.” That’s why the third angels’ message is so important – it’s a warning that we need to be giving to the world.

Another thing that I found very interesting was that the Israelite leaders, who had so many signs they could have studied, neglected the light that was given to them. However, a group of shepherds, who most people at that time would consider lowly, are prepared to receive the glad tidings that Jesus was born. There’s also another group in the East, the Wise Men, also looked down upon by the Jews, who the angels discover have been watching for the Messiah’s Coming. The priests and leaders should have been the first to realize that Jesus was now on Earth, but because they were not faithful to the light given to them, they were unaware of His presence. If we make the same mistake today, the same thing will happen to us – we will be oblivious when the Second Coming occurs.

  4. Something that I learned was that we need to study the Scriptures by comparing them with other portions of Scripture. It amazed me that William Miller didn’t even have the light that we have from Ellen White’s writings, yet just by studying and comparing Scripture he was able to decipher the prophecies – he had almost a full understanding of what they meant!

  5. I found that the false doctrines in William Miller’s day were really interesting. I had never heard of the millennium being before the Second Coming! But I realized why Satan would want us to believe that there would be a thousand years of righteousness and peace – it makes you feel like there’s no need to be prepared now. You have all the time you need to get prepared later. But it’s crucial to be prepared! We need to be spreading the gospel right now, right here, wherever we are.

  6. I learned a lot about prophecy, especially the 2300-day prophecy, in the first part of my reading. Although I’d read it before, it was really good for me to read it again and to realize where the references were for reading about the 2300 day prophecy. The whole chapter really puzzled me at first, because it talks all about how William Miller had checked all of his studying for errors and after his five-year study, he felt fully convinced he was correct. I wondered why God would let someone who was so dedicated to studying His Word be so apparently misled like that! But I realized that God really had worked out “everything for the good of those who love Him.” Romans 8:28 He used William Miller and his faithful studies to alert the whole world to the nearness of Christ’s coming, to give them the light of the three angel’s messages, and to unite an advent movement.

Thanks for staying up so well on your reading assignments, Amaris. Hopefully, it’s being a blessing for you.

  8. One thing that really stuck out to me from my last reading was that the true followers of God, those who had really studied and searched their Bibles, were compared with the disciples a lot. Like the disciples at the Crucifixion, the followers of Christ were disappointed when the Lord didn’t come. Although they looked at it as something that crushed their hopes, it was actually the very thing that made their hopes sure! It was the event that fulfilled the prophecies – it showed them Jesus was truly the Messiah! Not only did it reaffirm their faith, it also enabled them to have faith even in the most trying circumstances. It taught them something as well, however. They learned not to accept the world’s view – the popular view – when studying the Bible. They learned to study everything out for themselves. Ultimately, however, they were fulfilling the will of God by proclaiming this message.

Another thing that I found interesting was that the movement started around the country at the same time. There were people all over the world proclaiming the advent movement – in countries like Germany, Africa, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Persia, the United States, India, England, South America, France, Switzerland, and Scandinavia, and many more. Even kids were preaching the message! Children who were only 6-8 were proclaiming the words of Scripture: “Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come.” They brought many people to search the Scriptures and become convicted that they needed to reform. If they were able to do that, how much more can we, as adults and teenagers, accomplish for the Lord!
